Rohingya refugee camps lack pure drinking water
Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar lack pure drinking water as most of the tubewells there are dysfunctional due to reduce of underground water level.
Expressing concerns over the major issue, ActionAid Country Director Farah Kabir has urged upon collective efforts to handle this devastating situation.
She made the urge at a seminar titled ‘Rohingya Influx in Bangladesh: Impact on Water and Environment’ on Tuesday.
The School of Environmental Science and Management of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized the seminar its Bashundhara campus.
Farah Kabir was the Keynote Speaker in the seminar.
In her presentation, Farah Kabir focused on major facts that influenced environmental imbalance in Cox’s Bazar.
She stated that whole forest area in the district has been cleaned out and including asian elephants, other animals are becoming critically vulnerable due to this crisis.
Following the presentation, floor was open for question-answer session where both students and faculties participated.
The programme ended with vote of thanks given by Prof. Dr. K Ayaz Rabbani, Head of Department of Environmental Science. Senior members of the faculty and administration and a large number of students attended the Seminar.
