Remembering Selim Al Deen
Today is the 69th birth anniversary of Natyacharya Selim Al Deen. To commemorate this day, theater troupes Dhaka Theater and Swapnadal held two separate festivals at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the city's Segun Bagicha area.
Swapnadal organized a discussion event yesterday at the Studio Theater Hall of BSA where Ataur Rahamn, one of the pioneer theater personalities, graced the occasion as chief guest.
On the other hand, Mohammad Rafiquzzaman, director general of National Institute of Mass Communication and Kamal Bayazid, secretary general of Bangladesh Group Theater Federation were present as special guest. Swapnadal's general secretary Zahid Repon delivered the welcome speech at the event.
Later the troupe staged a special show of their much acclaimed production 'Tringsha Shatabdee' at 7pm at the same venue. Swapnadal's Tringsha Shatabdee is an anti-war Laboratory Theatre production mainly based on the atom-bomb tragedy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the Second World War. The troupe will stage Selim Al Deen's classic 'Hargaz' at the Experimental Theatre Hall (BSA) today at 7pm.
On the other hand, Dhaka Theater is holding a two-day festival to remember the legendary playwright of Bangladesh. The troupe hold a discussion titled 'Selim Al Deen Memorial Lecture' yesterday at 3pm at the seminar room of the National Theater Hall of BSA.
Later, the troupe staged its popular production 'Dhaboman' at 7pm at the same venue. Today morning, both Dhaka Theater and Swapnadal's artistes placed floral wreaths on the playwright's graveyard at Jahangirnagar University.
