Rayhan remanded on Malaysia over migrant comments
Malaysian police have located Bangladesh citizen Rayhan Kabir in 14-day remand for giving an interview to Al Jazeera where he spoke against the authorities because of their alleged mistreatment of migrant workers.

Hamzah Zainudin, Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs, in Saturday said Rayhan Kabir was placed on 14-day remand for investigation.

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud said Rayhan Kabir will be deported from Malaysia and it may take 2-3 weeks to complete the all procedures.

The Malaysian government revoked Rayhan's visa and issued an arrest warrant against him accusing him of giving false information within an interview with Al-Jazeera.

Rayhan was arrested by a team of Immigration officers from the Putrajaya office at about 5.45 pm in Setapak on Friday.
It was reported that the department had sought cooperation from the general public to locate the man to facilitate an investigation beneath the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).

On July 3, international news agency Al Jazeera aired a documentary titled “Locked Up in Malaysia’s Lockdown” which alleged mistreatment of unlawful immigrants in Malaysia during the procedure for tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.
