Question leaking cannot be stopped overnight: Dr Kaykobad
Question paper leak problem is linked with moral degradation with no instant
solution and the Question Paper Leaks Prevention Committee is searching for a
permanent solution.
The leak prevention committee chief Dr. M. Kaykobad, also professor of
Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Bangladesh University of
Engineering and Technology (BUET), said these while addressing a roundtable
dialogue on Saturday.
Bangladesh Debate Federation (BDF) organized the dialogue between educational
experts and students on 'Question Leaking and its Solution' at Bishwo Shahitto
Kendro on Saturday afternoon, reports UNB.
Dr. Kaykobad said the country's people are not that honest where they will not
use leaked question for better results, so ethical enhancement is not the
solution of the problem now.
He said, 'We need to innovate such a way with the help of technology which
precludes questions from leaking'.
In the discussion many participants from different educational institutions and
debate clubs raised their voice about the reason of the problem and also
recommended probable solutions from their viewpoints.
The participants mentioned about GPA-5 achieving tendency, minimum GPA score as
an admission conditions in better collages, loops in administrative systems,
political denials and ignorance about it, and absence of taking proper and
visible legal steps against the criminals as the reasons behind the phenomenon.
On this point of discussion a panel member, Sayeda Atikun Nahar, Associate
Professor of Institution of Education and Research of Dhaka University, said the
principle of education is amplifying the potential of a child, whereas public
examinations are not enough to judge their development.
"In our country examinations and results have a very important position than
truly learning so most of us run after GPA and examination results," she said.
She recommended the whole education system should be reconstructed by lessening
the importance of examination and result where students will be evaluated not
only by examinations but their overall performances class rooms and extra-
curriculum activities.
Zafir Shafiee Chowdhury, another panel discussant, is a director of Bondstein
Technologies Limited, who is supporting the BangladeshDirectorate General of
Health Services(DGHS) technologically to prevent question leaking from 2017.
He said using coding system can be a solution. In the system, password locked
question boxes can be distributed in every examination centers and using
software the boxes will automatically open just 10-15 minutes prior to
examination.
Many participants also mentioned about ethical practice of students and their
parents as well and asked the government to be more conscious about the issue.
Many others including Abdur Rahman Sukrana, the president of BDF, Dr. Nusrat, a
member of BDF Committee, delivered their views and Bulbul Hasan, Head of News
and Current Affairs of London-based One TV moderated the programmee.
