Probe into distortion of national flag at Rokeya University begins
A three-member inquiry committee, formed by the Rangpur district administration, on Friday evening launched a study in to the incident of displaying the national flag after distorting it by several teachers at Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur on Victory Day (December 16).

Earlier, the district administration formed the inquiry committee, with additional district magistrate Golam Rabbani, as convener to research the matter. 

Two teachers of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur filed a complaint with Tajhat Police Station in Rangpur city against Begum Rokeya University vice-chancellor Nazmul Ahasan Kalimullah and six other teachers alleging that that they had committed sedition by distorting the national flag.

The two teachers--assistant professor of Mathematics department Masiur Rahaman and lecturer Mass Communication and Journalism department Mahamudul Huque, filed the complaint on Thursday night, Tajhat Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Akhtaruzzaman said.

He said that they might send the complaints to the court and would choose action after acquiring the court's direction in this regard.

Aside from the university VC, the six teachers, who were named as accused, are the university teachers’ association general secretary Tabiur Rahaman Prodhan, Head of the Mathematics department Hafizur Rahaman Selim, Head of the Bengali department Porimol Chandra Barman, assistant professor of the Marketing department Masudul Hasan, lecturer of the History department Sohag Ali and lecturer of Mass Communication and Journalism department Rahmatullah.

The complainants alleged that some teachers of the university held a rally before Independence Square of the campus on December 16 holding a distorted national flag. They posed for an image holding the flag and posted it on social media. 

They distorted the flag by putting a red square instead of a red circle in the center of the green background. The distortion is a clear violation of constitutional code, said the complainants.
