Prime accused in Noakhali gang-rape case arrested
Police arrested prime accused in Noakhali gang-rape case while conducting the drive in Barura Upazila of Cumilla on Wednesday noon (January 2).

35-year-old Sohel was arrested from a brick field at Moheshpur area of Barura Upazila, said Ilias Sharif, superintendent of Noakhali police.

Sohel, son of late Ismail, hails from Modda Baga village under Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali.

Detective Branch of police arrested Sohel and two others during drives launched in Cumilla and Lakshmipur districts from Tuesday (January 1) night to Wednesday (January 2) noon.

The other two accused are- Swapon, 35, and Basu, 40, son of Ahmed Ullah, hailing from the same village- Modda Baga.

A three-member committee of National Human Rights Commission Bangladesh came to Noakhali at noon to investigate the incident of gang rape.

They took testimony from the victim. After receiving medical report, the committee will submit investigation report to the commission. On the night of Monday (Dec 31), a 32-year old woman was gang-raped by a group of 'terrorists' in Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali.

His wife became victim for voting the opposition party in 11th parliamentary election which took place on December 30, victim’s husband alleged.

The woman claimed that all the attackers were followers of one Ruhul Amin Member, a former member of Char Jubilee Union Parishad.

The husband of the victim filed a case with Char Jabbar Police Station, accusing nine persons.
