President sings Digital Security Bill
President Abdul Hamid has signed the Digital Security Bill into law.
His Press Secretary Joynal Abedin has confirmed the assent of the president on Monday’s afternoon.
Earlier on September 19, the parliament passed the Digital Security Bill 2018 keeping the much criticized Section 32 amid concerns and objections from journalist community and other rights bodies.
The new law has brought tougher punishment for illegally accessing and destroying any important information related to the state affairs.
Concerned people in media and human rights organizations have been criticizing different sections of the Act fearing obstruction of press freedom.
