Nurul Alam elected President, Bashir Secretary of JUTA
Physics department Professor Md Nurul Alam and Professor Bashir Ahmed of Government and Politics were elected President and Secretary respectively in the Jahangirnagar University Teachers Associations polls on Monday.
 
Election Commissioner Professor A K M Abul Kalam declared the results at Teachers club of the university at6:00 pm, reports UNB.

This year, Two panels from Pro-Awami League teachers took part in the election while one was backed by JU Vice Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam and the other Panel was backed by former JU VC Professor Sharif Enamul Kabir.

A total of eight post including president and secretary backed by JU VC named "Bangabandhu Shikkha Parishad" was elected and seven including joint secretary and six executives were elected from another AL panel backed by Sharif Enamul Kabir named "Bangabandhur Adarsha o Muktijuddhar Chatanay Bishwasi Pragatishil Shikkakh Samaj".

Professor Rasheda Akhter was elected vice president, Professor Nuh-e-Alam as treasurer while Professor Abdul Mannan Chowdhory, Professor Motahahar Hossain, Professor Fahliza Begum and Assistant Professor Abdul Manna were elected as executive members from the VC-backed "Bangabandhu Sikkah Parishad" panel.

On the other hand, Associate Professor Awlad Hossain as joint secretary while Professor Sahed Rashid, Professor Syed Hafizur Rahman, Associate Professor Azharul Islam, Associate Professor Laizu Nasrin, Associate Professor Muhammad Sayadur Rahman were elected from the "Bangabandhur Adarsha o Muktijuddhar Chatanay Bishwasi Pragatishil Shikkakh Samaj".

"The voting began at9amand continued till3:30pmat the university teachers' club. A total of 519 vote cast out of 535 votes in that poll.

Mentionable that BNP-backed teachers withdrew their candidature from the election as their chief Begum Khaleda Zia landed in jail.
