Pooja attends UNESCO International Dance Council
Eminent Bangladeshi dance artiste Pooja Sengupta attended the general assembly of International Dance Council (CID), the official partner of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in Paris recently. Pooja, the artistic director of Turongomi Repertory Dance Theatre, participated in the dance council as the first Bangladeshi dance artiste.
 
The 23rd biennial general assembly of CID was held in Paris, France on December 4. As a member of the council, Pooja delivered her speech at the UNESCO headquarters.  

Alongside highlighting the Turangami’s programmes designed to establish professionalism in Bangladesh’s dance, Pooja spoke about the overall cultural scenario, dance and dance artistes of Bangladesh in her three-minute speech. She also invited the world-renowned dance trainers for conducting training, research and workshop in Bangladesh.

With the aim to establish professionalism in the country’s dance world and setting up own trend of Bangladesh’s contemporary dance, Turongomi Repertory Dance Theatre--the first dance-based repertory in the country--commenced its journey on January 31 in 2014.  

Turongomi School of Dance and Pooja Sengupta as an individual received the memberships of UNESCO’s International Dance Council  on July 31 in 2019.
