PM to lay Bangabandhu Railway Bridge foundation-stone Thursday
Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan on Wednesday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay the foundation-stone of the Bangabandhu Railway Bridge (dual-gauge) Thursday, which will be constructed over the Jamuna River next to the Bangabandhu Bridge.

"Processes including tenders and contracts have been completed for the construction of the bridge… Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will officially lay the foundation-stone of the railway bride on November 29," he said while inspecting the site of the railway bridge in Saidabad area of Sirajganj Wednesday afternoon.

The construction work of the bridge begins following the Prime Minister unveils the building blocks stone, he said.

He also said that, "The project will be implemented in Sirajganj and Tangail. With this new railway bridge, trains can run at a speed of 100 kilometers each hour on two lines."

The job has been awarded to a Japanese firm to create the bridge.

The project is likely to be done by 2025, added the minister.

Local MP Prof Dr Habib-e-Milat, District Council Chairman Abdul Latif Biswas, Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and other senior officials of the Railway Department were present on the occasion.
