PM issues directives to check fire incidents
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday (April 1) issued 12-point directives including introduction of yearly clearance certificate by Fire Service for high-rise buildings to check fire incidents.

The cabinet, in its weekly meeting chaired by the premier this morning, adopted a condolence motion on at the loss of lives and property in the recent devastating fire at FR Tower in city’s Banani area.

After adopting the motion, the prime minister gave the 12-point directives with an urge to all concerned to follow building code strictly to check fire incidents.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said this while talking to reporters after the meeting.

When the multi-storey building is built, the Fire Service usually gives a clearance. But clearance is not enough, regular inspection a must to check whether it is viable.

She also directed authorities concerned to introduce yearly clearance certificate by the Fire Service and Civil Defence Department for high-rise buildings like industries.

The building owners have been asked to arrange fire drill in every three months to make aware the people about fire safety.

She also asked all concerned for innovating techniques that are followed internationally to control smoke during the blaze.

PM Hasina also directed the architects to design the buildings keeping in mind the environment, ensure the fire exit and keep it open all time.

The premier also put emphasis to make an arrangement for tarpaulin in the high-rise building so that people who get trapped in the buildings during fire incidents can use as the emergency exit.

The cabinet also prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved families.
