Over 300 Rohingyas rescued in Teknaf
Participants of Bangladesh Coast Safeguard on Wednesday nights rescued more than 300 Rohingyas floating in a boat in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar
The Rohingyas, almost all of whom women and children of numerous camps in Ukhia and Teknaf were rescued from Jahajpura ghat area at about 11pm.
Meanwhile, the rescued Rohingyas said they have been floating in the boat for practically two months and over 20 died during the period.
Rescued M Javed explained with the aid of traffickers, that they had boarded on a big ship for likely to Malaysia illegally.
"But, being intercepted, we again back to Teknaf coast. There are some 440 passengers on the ship. The majority of whom had been women and children. Passengers include thrown 50 dead from that ship in the water," he said.
M Jobair, another rescued Rohingya, narrated the almost same history of their perilous journey to Malaysia.
He said 28 Rohinggyas of his trawler have died during this time period.
Teknaf Station Coast Safeguard Officer Lieutenant Commander M Sohel Rana said they have detained over 300 Rohingyas from a ship at Jahajpura ghat. They were trying to go to Malaysia illegally and remained stuck found in the Bay for just two months.
Mohammad Saiful Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, explained the Rohingyas returned after failing woefully to anchor in Malaysia.
A lot of the rescued are women and children, he added.
