One killed, 50 injured found in Noakhali AL factional clash
A guy was killed and at least 50 persons were injured in a clash between two sets of Awami League at Basurhat in Noakhali’s Companiganj upazila on Tuesday.
The clash occurred reportedly between your supporters of Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and suspended Companiganj Upazila Awami League unit’s organizing secretary Mizanur Rahman (Badal) at Rupali Chattar area in Basurhat Municipality at night.
The deceased was discovered as Alauddin, 32, son of Mominul Haque, of Char Kali village in the upazila. Local sources claimed that the deceased was a follower of Mizanur Rahman.
Locals said Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza’s supporters attacked and take down Upazila Awami League unit president valiant independence fighter Khizir Hayat Khan in Rupali Chattar on Mon afternoon.
As sequel to it, a portion of upazila Awami Group (Mizanur Rahman Badal and his followers) organized a protest rally at Rupali Chattar at 4.00 pm on Tuesday, condemning the attack on Khizir Hayat Khan. At one level, Abdul Quader’s supporters tried to strike the protest rally at around 6.00pm.
During this time period, when the supporters of both sides came face to face, there have been chase and counter chase.
Witnesses said they had heard looks of explosions and gunshots through the running struggle which created a panic environment among the locals found in the area.
One persons was killed and at least 50 persons from both sides were injured found in the clash. Several shops and auto-rickshaws were vandalized at that time.
Besides, 4 policemen, including officer-in-charge Mir Zahidul Haque Rony, had been injured while trying to control the situation.
Noakhali General Medical center Residential Medical Officer Syed Mohiuddin Abdul Azim explained Alauddin was brought dead to a healthcare facility around 11.00 pm. Besides, 11 more persons who were shot had been admitted to a healthcare facility around 11:30 pm, he added.
Companiganj Police Station OC Mir Zahidul Haque Rony said Alauddin was killed during the clash between your two groups at about 11:30 pm. He said, "People on both sides were hurt in the clash. However, the situation is in order. Police have already been deployed in Basurhat industry."
According to local options, Chhatra League head Zakir Hossain, who was critically wounded in the shooting, was delivered to Noakhali General Hospital for better treatment.
Besides, the injured persons are taking treatment in various hospitals including upazila wellbeing complex.
