Nurse killed after gang rape on Kishoreganj bus
A young woman died jumping off a running bus in Katiadi upazila of the district on Monday night (May 6), but her family claimed it was gang rape.

The victim was identified as Shahinur Akther alas Tania, 23, daughter of Gias Uddin, of Baherchar village under Lohajuri union of the upazila.

Shahinur was a nurse of a private hospital in Dhaka city.

Police, on that night, detained 5 persons including bus driver Nuruzzaman, 39 and helper Lalon Miah, 33, over the incident.

Detainees claimed Tania tried to get off the bus by running, because she found herself alone after all the passengers had got off the bus, at that moment the helper prevented her but she jumped.

According to police and family of the deceased, Tania experienced sexual assault on a ‘Swornolota bus.’ At one stage, Tania jumped off the bus. Later, bus staff left her body at Katiadi upazila health complex and fled. She died while undergoing treatment there.

Shahinur had died before she was brought to the hospital. Marks of injury were found on her face, hands, and other parts of the body, according to Katiadi upazila health complex source.

Police sent the body to Kishoreganj 250-bed General Hospital to perform autopsy on it.

Higher authorities were informed of the incident. Next steps will be taken in this connection, Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Katiadi police station, told Banglabnews.
