Myanmar erects bridge on border canal
The Myanmar border security force has built a bridge over the cross border Konarpara canal on the Tumbru border allegedly as a strategy to drive the Rohingyas into Bangladesh from the no man’s land.

Nurul Kabir, a resident of Ghumdhum union, said onrush from the hills would cause flash flood in the area because of the bridge, reports a Bangla daily in its online version.

A section of Rohingya Muslims, driven away by the Myanmar forces, arrived on the no man’s land off Naikkhangchhari in 2017. They want to go nowhere but to get back to their ancestral land in Rakhaine.

Nur Alam, a Rohingya Muslim, said Myanmar forces fired gunshots every day, they set up more than 10 camps, and dug bankers on the border. Now they have erected a bridge on the canal flowing on zero line. “We’re scared at this,” he said.

Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner Mohammad Kamal Hossain said the administration has come to know the matter, and will inform the foreign ministry of the situation.
