Moushumi to run for president of film actors' association
National Film Award winning actress Arifa Parvin Moushumi has announced that she will run for the position of President of Bangladesh Cholochitro Shilpi Samitiat the upcoming election of the samiti. The samiti hasn't announced its manifesto yet; however, Moushumi announced her candidacy on Sunday.

Actor Omar Sani, Moushumi's husband, posted about the announcement on his Facebook profile. She is the first female to run for this post of the professional organization of the film actors in Bangladesh.

She would contest as the first woman presidential candidate in the history of Bangladesh Film Actors' Association election. 'I have decided to be a candidate at the request of others. I want to work for the welfare of film artistes,' said Moushumi. Moushumi was elected as an executive member during the previous election. However, she did not take oath and stepped down on July 3, 2017.

However, she did not take an oath for her position which created confusion about her engagement in the committee. Subsequently, Moushumi resigned from the position of executive member of the organization. 

Many popular actors, including Purnima, Ferdous, Riaz and Poppy, expressed their support for Moushumi. 

Misha Sawdagar-Zayed Khan panel won the biennial election of Bangladesh Film Actors' Association in 2017. Misha Sawdagar was elected president while Zayed Khan became general secretary. The schedule for the next election has not been announced yet.
