Mohakal to stage ‘Srabon Tragedy’ today
Theatre troupe Mohakal Natya Sampraday will stage one of its latest production ‘Srabon Tragedy’, based on the tragic assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, today at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilapakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.

To celebrate the journey of 36 years in the theatre arena, Mohakal Natya Sampraday has organised a five-day theatre festival titled ‘Dhaka-Delhi Theatre Festival’ which began yesterday.

Written by Ann Zaman, associate professor of Jahangirnagar University’s Drama and Dramatics Department, the play ‘Srabon Tragedy’ is planned and directed by Ashique Rahman Leon, assistant professor of the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies of Dhaka University.

The drama is patronised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and different government and non-government organisations to pay tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Mohakal brought its 40th theatre production ‘Srabon Tragedy’ on stage in August, 2018, in the month of mourning as a mournful narration of the tragic death of the Father of the Nation and the history to the new generation.

‘Srabon Tragedy’, a research-based performance, is the depiction of the tragic assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members while the play focuses on Bangabandhu’s participation in different movements. A total of 40 artistes performs in the drama in the different roles.
