Minister tests coronavirus positive for first-time in Bangladesh
Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) minister Bir Bahadur U Shwe Sing MP has tested coronavirus position. That is for the very first time that a minister in Bangladesh has contract the deadly disease following start of pandemic in the country.
His swab samples tested positive at Cox's Bazar Medical College Lab on Saturday.
Cox's Bazar Medical College principal Dr Anupam Barua confirmed it at about 10:30pm on Saturday.
He said coronavirus diagnosis lab create at the Cox's Bazar Medical College remained closed on Thursday and Friday for technical reasons. Samples of 348 folks were tested on Saturday, where 108 persons, including Bir Bahadur U Shwe Sing, tested positive.
Among those that tested positive included 97 from Cox's Bazar district. They were 42 from Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila, 7 from Teknaf upazila, 19 from Ukhia upazila, 1 from Chakaria upazila, 2 from Pekua upazila, 22 from Ramu upazila, 1 from Moheskhali upazila, 5 from Bandarban upazila, 3 from Ramu, one fron Naikkhangchari, and 2 from Satkania upazila. Three others were the NGO workers.
It might be mentioned that 7,699 suspected persons were tested coronavirus positive in 64 days at Cox's Bazar Medical College Lab. Of these, 1,066 tested coronavirus positive, including 969 from Cox's Bazar district. Up to now, 19 people including a Rohingya died of coronavirus in Cox's Bazar.
