Last tributes pour in for Subir Nandi
Ekushey Padak-winning celebrated singer Subir Nandi passed away at a hospital in Singapore early Tuesday. He was 66. The veteran singer was taken to Singapore on April 30, two weeks after he was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka following a heart attack. He had been suffering from heart and kidney diseases since long time.

People from all walks of life on Wednesday (May 8) paid their last tributes to eminent singer and composer Subir Nandi at the Central Shaheed Minar and Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) when thousands of fans from across the country are mourning the irreparable loss. Subir's body was kept at the Central Shaheed Minar from 11:00 am to 12 pm so that people can pay their tributes to the noted singer. It was taken to Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises around 12:50 pm.

Information minister Hasan Mahmud, public works minister SM Rezaul Karim, Awami League acting general secretary Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif, national coordinator of National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute Samant Lal Sen, cultural personalities Ramendu Majumdar and Nasir Uddin Yusuf came to Shaheed Minar to pay their tributes.

General Secretary of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote Golam Kiddush, singers Rathindranath Roy, Khurshid Alam, Timir Nandi, Fakir Alamgir, Kumar Biswajit, Andrew Kishore, Robi Chowdhury, Shuvra Dev, Nakib Khan, Fouad Naser Babu, Badshya Bulbul, SD Rubel were, among others, present.

The body of Subir Nandi is scheduled to be taken to Channel I office and Ramkrishna Mission in the city. His body will be cremated at Sabujbag cremation ground. The body of Subir Nandi was brought back from Singapore Wednesday morning. A flight of Regent Airways, carrying the mortal remains, landed at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 6:50 am. Later, his body was taken to his Green Road residence from where it was taken to Dhakeshwari Temple.
