Language Movement veteran Laila Nur passes away
Language Movement veteran Professor Laila Nur passed away at CD Path Hospital in Cumilla.

Laila Nur breathed her last around 9:15 am on Friday (May 31).

85-year-old Laila Nur had been suffering from heart disease as well as old-age complications, according to her grandson Golam Jilani.

Her namaz-e-janaza will be held on Dharmapur Purbapara Jaame Mosque ground in the afternoon.

Later, she will be buried in her family graveyard. 

Laila Nur was born in Daudkandi upazila of Comilla on October 5 of 1934.

She was then a student of the English Department of Dhaka University in 1955.  She was jailed for her participation in the Language Movement.

In 1957, she joined Comilla Victoria Government College as its first female teacher and then retired from her service in 1992.

Laila Nur was awarded ‘Binoy Sommanona Award’ for her contribution to the Language Movement and education in 2014.
