Huawei Mate X 2 concept gets us excited for future of foldable smartphones
The Huawei Mate X is expected to launch officially in September this year and due to some unforeseen holdups, the release of this highly sought after handset has been delayed. While we wait for September to see this handset and how it fares in real world situations, Dutch website LetsGoDigital has shown off concept photos for a brand new foldable smartphone that comes with an exciting new design.

The handset dubbed Huawei Mate X 2 comes with two separate screens and looks a lot like the Galaxy Fold. On the outside, we see a smartphone type of screen and when unfolded, we see a beautiful tablet-like display within. The major difference here when compared to the Galaxy Fold is the outer screen which is a lot bigger and appears far better looking.

The original Huawei Mate X is said to be a much more refined device in comparison to the Galaxy Fold even though it’s a first generation handset. The Mate X is said to be attractive and easy to operate in both orientations. Apart from the design, the specifications of the Mate X are also impressive as it comes packing a Kirin 980 chipset, 4500mAh battery and 5G connectivity.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold was tipped to be a rival to the Huawei Mate X and now its been months since its February announcement and the device is no closer to being officially available. Shortly after its release to select reviewers, the display started to malfunction thus forcing a recall by Samsung. Because of this issue with the display, Samsung has indefinitely pushed by the release of the Galaxy Fold.

While the Samsung device doesn’t come with a definite release, several other smartphone manufacturers are readying to launch their own foldable smartphones. Motorola is one of the bigger brands who are rumoured to launch a Razr-style foldable display and Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has also already shown off their working prototype.
