Not any sooner had stand-in England skipper Stokes (46) fallen to rival all-rounder Holder for the second amount of time in the match then Crawley was caught and bowled by paceman Alzarri Joseph for a Test-best 76.

Jos Buttler then fell for 9 when bowled through an enormous gap somewhere between bat and pad by Joseph, who had stumps statistics of 2-40.

And there was still time for Windies spearhead Shannon Gabriel (3-62) to bowl Dom Bess and Ollie Pope.

West Indies contain the Wisden Trophy nonetheless they have not won a good Test series in England for 32 years.

Victory in Sunday, however, would put them 1-0 up with two to take up.

"All you can carry out is get both staying wickets and bat normally," West Indies mentor Phil Simmons told reporters.

"If we bat for five hours tomorrow to chase 180-190 it's a standard batting day, not really a chase where you must go at it."

But teams own faltered before facing seemingly modest fourth-innings chases and Crawley told Sky Activities: "It ought to be restricted if we bowl well tomorrow.

"We've definitely got the bowlers to have 10 wickets on the website."

England were still one run behind West Indies' first innings 318 when Crawley found the crease.

However the 22-year-old, in his fifth Check, completed a well-made fifty when he reverse-swept off-spinner Roston Chase for four before surpassing his earlier best of 66 against South Africa at Johannesburg in January.

Stokes, skippering the side in the lack of Joe Root, had already top-scored with 43 found in England's meagre first-innings 204 before leading their strike with 4-49.

'Big spells'

But towering paceman Holder, number 1 ahead of Stokes found in the ICC's Test all-rounder ranks, squared up the England talisman and had him caught by Shai Anticipation, cleverly positioned as the finer of two gulleys for the left-handed batsman.

It had been a tactical and also personal triumph for Holder, with Simmons saying: "It's what he will. He comes home and puts in the big spells for the crew -- that's how he network marketing leads. I didn't expect anything diverse."

There is more joy for the Windies when Crawley, aiming legside, was caught and bowled by Joseph.

England resumed on 15-0 in the to begin a three-match behind closed doors series.

Chase, who took a good Test-perfect 8-60 against England in his Barbados home surface last year, achieved the initial breakthrough Saturday when Rory Burns (42) carelessly chop him to backward level.

Dom Sibley, Burns' beginning partner, made a painstaking fifty.

The very after that ball saw Sibley play to Gabriel limited to the bowler to be denied by third umpire Michael Gough's tight no-ball call.

But, two balls after, Sibley - still on 50 -- glanced Gabriel to Dowrich seeing as he was just as before caught down the legside found in his fledgling Test job.

Joe Denly, competing for a location with Sibley when Root returns following the birth of his daughter for following week's second Test at Ancient Trafford, needed a big score to bolster a good lowly Test common of under 30.

But instead he fell tamely for 29 when chipping Chase to Holder at brief midwicket.

The West Indies have made the running in this match, with Holder going for a Test-best 6-42 after losing the toss.
