Government should take control of Tongi Ijtema Maidan, urge Saadists
Followers of Mawlana Saad, chief of Tabligh Jamaat of India, urged the government to take control of Ijtema Maidan in Tongi. They sought Prime Minister’s intervention in this regard.
They made the appeal at a press conference in Dhaka Reporters’ Unity office on Monday. Spokesman of the Saadists, Mawlana Ikram, read out their demands at the press conference.
Their demands are given below:
1. The government should take full control of Tongi Ijtema ground as per the previous decision of the Home Minister during a reconcile meeting of the rival groups.
2. Decision on use of Tongi Maidan should be taken consulting the groups after the election.
3. Equal position and rights of the two groups at Kakrail Mosque should be ensured.
4. When one group takes control of Kakrail Mosque, the other group should be conferred the control power of Tongi ground.
5. One group cannot prevent the other group from conducting Tabligh activities at district and local levels. The local administration should intervene over any dispute in this regard.
6. Madrasa students should not be involved in politics or obstructing Tabligh activities.
7. Darul Ulum Deoband (India) principal Muftwi Abul Qasem Nomani and academic coordinator Mawlana Arshsad Madani said Darul Ulum and Tabligh authorities would not interfere one another’s affairs. Bangladeshi Islamic scholars also should follow the principle.
8. To ensure security of foreign guests.
9. Politics-free Tabligh should prevail in Bangladesh.
