'Gangubai Kathiawadi' and 'RRR' will release in theatres and not OTT
In the past one year several big Bollywood movies have taken the OTT route owing to theatres being shut due to the pandemic. Rumours were rife that Alia Bhatt's 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', South biggie 'RRR' and John Abraham's action entertainer 'Attack' will release on digital streaming platforms. However the producer Pen Studios have denied any such decision. "We would like to clarify that Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR and Attack will release in cinemas. There have been several rumours doung rounds about these films releasing on OTT platforms before cinemas which are untrue. These magnum opus films ae made for the big screen experience and would be releasing in theatres," said Dr Jayantilal Gada, chairman and MD of Pen Studios in an official statement.

'Gangubai Kathiawadi' is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and has been shot extensively during the pandemic. Announcing the film's wrap in June this year, Alia had shared on Instagram, "This film and set has been through two lockdowns.. two cyclones.. director and actor getting covid during the making!!! the troubles the set has faced is another film all together! But through all that and more.. what I take away is the gigantic life changing experience!" The trailer of 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' was launched earlier this year and the makers are yet to announce a release date. While S Rajamouli's 'RRR' was confirmed theatrical release on 13 October. The film features Jr NTR and Ram Charan in lead roles with Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn essaying pivotal parts.
