Four skiers killed found in US avalanche
Four skiers were killed and four other folks wounded after an avalanche struck in a canyon found in the western US state of Utah, hometown authorities and media said Friday.
The Utah Avalanche Center, which records avalanches in your community, said it was the best toll since 1992.
“We happen to be overwhelmed with sadness to article 4 skiers killed today within an avalanche around Wilson Peak in higher Mill Creek Canyon,” it tweeted.
Native TV station KSTU reported police first received a faint distress call around 11.40 am (1840 GMT).
Four various other skiers were also caught in the avalanche but managed to dig themselves out and were rescued, the station reported. The degree of their injuries was unidentified.
“This is an awful tragedy and our prayers go out to the victims and families involved,” tweeted Utah Governor Spencer Cox.
“We are grateful to the earliest responders and other people who engaged in this rescue and restoration work. With avalanche danger huge at this time, please exercise extreme caution.”
Avalanches certainly are a serious hazard found in Utah’s mountains from January to April. Before Saturday, prior to the accident, the avalanche middle had warned of “Risky avalanche circumstances” in a tweet.
