Four skiers killed in US avalanche
Four skiers were killed and four other folks wounded after an avalanche struck in a good canyon in the western US state of Utah, hometown authorities and media said Friday.

The Utah Avalanche Centre, which files avalanches in your community, said it was the best toll since 1992.

“We will be overwhelmed with sadness to survey several skiers killed today in an avalanche around Wilson Peak in upper Mill Creek Canyon,” it tweeted.

Native TV station KSTU reported police earliest received a faint distress call around 11.40 am (1840 GMT).

Four additional skiers were also found in the avalanche but were able to dig themselves out and were rescued, the station reported. The level of their injuries was unknown.

“This is an awful tragedy and our prayers go out to the victims and families involved,” tweeted Utah Governor Spencer Cox.

“We are grateful to the first responders and other people who engaged in this rescue and restoration effort. With avalanche threat high at this time, please exercise extreme care.”

Avalanches are a serious hazard found in Utah’s mountains from January to April. Previously Saturday, prior to the accident, the avalanche centre had warned of “Risky avalanche conditions” in a tweet.
