Foo Fighters win three Grammys as Taylor Hawkins is celebrated at the awards
A little over a week after Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins died, the American rock band has picked up three awards at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. The band won Best Rock Album for Medicine at Midnight, Best Rock Performance for the album's opening track, Making A Fire, and Best Rock Song for Waiting On A War.

Foo Fighters, who were due to perform on the night, cancelled all upcoming concert dates after Hawkins' death. Presenter Jimmy Jam accepted the prizes on their behalf, "with prayers to their loved ones". The awards were presented during the Grammy Premiere Ceremony, which took place ahead of the big event on Sunday night.

Hawkins died on March 25 in Colombia at the age of 50 ahead of a festival performance by the band. There were no immediate details about how Hawkins died, though the band said that his death was a “tragic and untimely loss". It has since been reported that opioids, marijuana and other drugs were found in his system after he died, according to investigators, although it is not confirmed whether they contributed to his death.
“His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever,” said a message on the band’s official Twitter account that was also emailed to the media.

During the Grammys, which took place in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, a video tribute was played in honour of Hawkins, with the Foo Fighters' song My Hero as the backdrop.

During her performance of Happier Than Ever, Billie Eilish wore a black T-shirt with Hawkins' image across the front, while Grammys host Trevor Noah said: "Our thoughts go out to Taylor's family, his friends, the Foo Fighters family and all of their fans around the globe."
