FM seeks support from media to promote public diplomacy
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Wednesday sought support from the media to attain Bangladesh’s overseas policy goal on open public diplomacy front to help the united states tell its success stories overseas, reports UNB.
"We wish your deep engagement. It's period for a modify," he explained highlighting the value of objective journalism rather than focusing only on harmful aspects.
Appreciating the function of media, the Foreign Minister also encouraged the journalists to provide a comparative understanding in challenges like incidents of rape and extrajudicial killings rather than giving one-sided picture.
He made the remarks when Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) Executive Committee led by its President Pantho Rahaman and Basic Secretary AKM Moinuddin met him.
Express Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen were also present at the meeting held in the Bangladesh Foreign Service Academy.
Maritime Affairs Device Secretary Backside Admiral (Retd) Md Khurshed Alam, Rector of Foreign Provider Academy, Syed Masud Mahmood Khundoker, Director General at Public Diplomacy wing Samia Halim, Director Arifa Rahman Ruma also spoke.
The Foreign Minister said what they see about Bangladesh in media in some instances is not the true picture.
Congratulating the DCAB leaders, State Minister Alam explained the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will help the DCAB people regarding capacity building through the Foreign Company Academy.
He appreciated the proposals created by the DCAB and suggested to create in a written format to proceed on the subject of the proposals.
"We’ve many stuff to do. And we’ll have the ability to do it," explained the State Minister.
Foreign Secretary Masud Momen said all of the proposals created by the DCAB are deliverable. "We’re on the same page."
DG and Director of the general public Diplomacy wing shared their plans in the meeting how they are able to collaborate more to promote public diplomacy.
