Floods could be prolonged, govt prepared to tackle any situation: Prime Minister
Primary Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has asked her get together leaders and personnel to remain ready to tackle any problem if the ongoing flood is prolonged, studies BSS.

"This year's flood may be prolonged. The 1998 deluge lasted for the longest period of 69 days, as the 1988 flooding was for 14 days," she said.

The premier added: "If the current flood is prolonged like 1998, we'll have that kind of preparation in what should we do."

Sheikh Hasina was addresing a good coordination assembly of the AL's joint basic secretaries and organising secretaries over cellular phone at her Dhanmondi political workplace in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.

Citing the knowledge of combating the 1998 flood, the premier stated her government has made adequate preparations to have prompt measures to face any situation in the event the ongoing flood is certainly lingered like 1998.

In this connection, she said many (people) in those days (1998) had said that two crore people would die, but none died as her the then government easy methods in this regard.

"We (AL leaders and employees) distributed handmade breads and cooked foods, purified water and handmade oral saline to the flood-hit persons at that time," she recalled, saying such types of preparations happen to be required this time around too.

The premier reiterated that there would be no crisis of foods as her government has recently stockpiled enough food grains, while its efforts to the end 're going on in order that nobody is suffering from food crisis.

Sheikh Hasina said she's been trying her better to hold operative the wheels of the country’s market amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"We've already given the national funds and so are passing the assignments at the quickest possible time. We have been undertaking these as we hope that better days will come following the coronavirus pandemic," she continuing.

The premier urged all to follow medical guidelines properly including wearing masks and taking hot water to safeguard themselves from the lethal virus.

She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to members of the armed forces, BGB, police and local administration and leaders and activists of the AL and its own front and associate bodies for extending all sorts of cooperation to the people to ease their hardship in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

AL presidium members Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, Facts Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni, Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organising Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, BM Mozammel Huque, Mirza Azam and SM Kamal Hossain, and Deputy Business office Secretary Sayem Khan, had been present, among others.
