Ex-CJ SK Sinha cleared of graft charges
A Dhaka court has exonerated former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha of charges in a case filed by former minister Barrister Nazmul Huda.

Dhaka Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the order recently after accepting the final report submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said court bench clerk Foyez Ahmed on Sunday, UNB reports.

The court also dismissed a no-confidence petition filed by Nazmul Huda.

The ACC filed the final report on January 14 last.

On December 4 last, the national anti-graft body gave clean chit to the former chief justice in the event as it was proved to be a false one during investigation.

It had also approved the filing of a normal case against Nazmul Huda for lodging a false case against SK Sinha.

Barrister Nazmul Huda, a former BNP minister, filed another case against SK Sinha with Shahbagh Police Station on September 27, 2018 on charge of misuse of power and corruption.

SK Sinha continued leave on October 2, 2017 and left for Australia on October 13 amid a row over a few of his observations in the 16th amendment verdict.

Right before his departure, he previously told reporters that he had not been sick, contradicting the government’s declare that he continued leave on health grounds.

A day after SK Sinha’s visit to Australia, the Supreme Court issued a statement, saying he was facing 11 charges, including graft, moral turpitude and money laundering.

On November 11, 2017, he resigned from his post of chief justice.
