Emirates confirms suspension of all passenger flights from March 25
Dubai based Emirates has confirmed that the airline will probably suspend all passenger flights from March 25 until further notice as the United Arab Emirates halts all inbound, outbound and transit passenger flights in efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
“As per the latest UAE government directive, Emirates will temporarily suspend all passenger flights from March 25, 2020,” Emirates said in a statement.
“These measures are set up for the protection of communities against the spread of COVID-19, and we are completely support,” the statement added.
It also mentioned that the carrier looks forward to resuming passenger services the moment feasible.
“Affected customers should visit emirates.com to find out more on rebooking or contact their travel agents for assistance.”
However, Emirates continues to use freighter flights, helping maintain essential international air cargo links for economies and communities.
The move employs multiple contradictory announcements on March 22, with Emirates in the beginning announcing a total flight suspension and reversing course within hours because of “requests from governments,” instead announcing it could suspend “most” of its flights.
With the state ban on all passenger flights, even for transit, by the UAE’s Civil Aviation Authority, announced on March 23, Emirates is currently completely suspending its passenger flights from March 25, subject to review and renewal.
Cargo and emergency evacuation flights will be exempt, the UAE’s Civil Aviation Authority said, “considering all the protective measures adopted according to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health insurance and Prevention.”
