EC to stay aware of bar Rohingyas becoming voters: Anisul
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Monday said the Election Commission (EC) should stay alert to ensure that the Rohingyas can't ever be enrolled as voters adopting against the law means.

“The EC should be very much careful so that the Rohingyas or citizens from any other countries can't ever be registered as voters of the united states,” he said this as the principle guest while attending a discussion on the occasion of the National Voter Day at Bangabandhu International Conference center in the administrative centre.

The minister stressed on enactment of a law entailing harsh punishment to curb such illegal activities, adding that the federal government is ready to extend its cooperation to this end.

On Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), regulations minister said today's world can be an age of technology, so desired development can’t be performed without technology.

Anisul told the conference various countries on the planet like the USA, Canada, Brazil, Russia, France, Japan, Australia, Peru, Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) curently have introduce the EVM, however, many people in the country are opposing the machine without having satisfactory knowledge in this ground.

However the fact remains that there surely is no option to introduction of new EVM technology to totally get rid of the malpractice in voting process, the minister told the conference organized by the EC.

The conference was also addressed, among others, by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, Election Commissioners Mahbub Talukder, M Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossen Chowdhury with Senior Secretary of the EC M Alamgir in the chair.
