DIG prison Partha Gopal held with Tk 80 lakh
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) detained Partha Gopal Banik, deputy inspector general (DIG) (prisons) in Sylhet with Tk 80 lakh of graft money from his Dhanmondi residence in the capital city.

A team of the anti-graft body conducted drive at the residence Partha Gopal Banik at Bhuter Goli in Dhanmondi on Sunday (July 28) afternoon and recovered the money.

Earlier in the day, Partha Gopal Banik was quizzed by an ACC team, led by its director Mohamamd Yusuf, at Segunbagicha office of the ACC for four hours from 10am.

Earlier, he was summoned to appear before it on Sunday to interrogate over graft allegations.

Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, public relations officer of the ACC, told Banglanews that being tipped off that he has kept Tk 80 lakh of graft money, the team of ACC raided his residence around 4:3pm and recovered the money. 

Prior to Sylhet, Partha Gopal Banik discharged his duty at Chattogram central jail. As per part of investigation on irregularities and graft allegation in Chattogram, he and former senior jail superintendent of Chattogram were quizzed. 

Partha, however, claimed that Tk 80 lakh was earned from his legal source. Of this, his mother-in-law gave him Tk 30 lakh. The remaining 50 lakh is his lifetime deposit.
