Decision on Teesta water posting after WB, Assam polls: Secy Anwar
India will need some decisions, including implementation of Teesta water-sharing treaty, after elections found in its West Bengal and Assam states.

Kabir Bin Anwar, senior secretary of Water Information Ministry, developed the remark at a good press conference at the VIP lounge of Hazrat Shahjalal AIRPORT TERMINAL on Wednesday, detailing the assembly at the drinking water secretary level with India.

The secretary-level meeting between water resources ministries of Bangladesh and India under the framework of the Joint Rivers Commission happened in Delhi on Tuesday. Anwar led the Bangladesh delegation while his counterpart Indian Normal water Methods Secretary Pankaj Kumar led the Indian delegation in the interacting with.

Through the press conference by the Dhaka airport’s VIP lounge upon his arrival from Delhi, Anwar said India offers assured that decisions in several issues, including the execution of the Teesta Treaty, will take place following the elections of West Bengal and Assam, relating to a news release.

“There has been progress on the problem of normal water from the Kushiyara River to the pump residence at Rahimpur for irrigation. The problem of conducting a joint study has been discussed as the water degree of the Mahananda River features decreased,” Anwar said.

There has been an extremely positive and fruitful discussion, he said.

Giving an answer to a reporter's query, Anwar said, "Indian Primary Minister Narendra Modi is definitely the guest of honour by programmes marking Bangabandhu’s birth centenary and the golden jubilee of independence. In addition, they have elections in advance in West Bengal and Assam. So, I don't think you will see anything about the agreement.”

Bangladesh-India Secretary level appointment was held in August 2019. Although the Indian secretary was invited this past year, it was delayed as a result of coronavirus epidemic. Therefore the meeting happened March 16 in New Delhi.

Mentioning that both countries have decided to conserve the river, Anwar explained, "First the natural stream of the river must be ensured, then normal water distribution. Survey, inspection, info collection, etc will be achieved jointly to ensure better understanding between your two countries.  

“Information exchanges of 6 identical rivers are actually in final stage. It’ll be a framework agreement in the near future. The 54 identical rivers will be mentioned in phases,” the Normal water Means senior Secretary said.
