Death penalty for rape
The Jatiya Sangsad on Tuesday passed the ladies and Kids Repression Prevention (Amendment) Costs 2020 in a bid to make sure death penalty for rape.
State Minister for Females and Kids Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira moved the expenses in the House which was unanimously passed by voice votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury found in the chair.
Explaining on the costs, the state minister said the enactment of the law might impose a positive position in the world, adding, “Today's government led by Primary Minister Sheikh Hasina is a lot aware of establishing the women’s right.”
Opposing the provision of loss of life penalty in the proposed legislation, opposition lawmaker Shamim Haider Patwary stated, “We will not get the benefit of the law without raising the appointment of Judges seeing that the country desires 18,000 judges to get the judiciary.”
Earlier, the ‘Women and Kids Repression Prevention (Amendment) Costs, 2020’ was positioned in Parliament about November 8, this season.
State Minister for Women and Kids Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira put the bill that was delivered to the respective parliamentary position committee for scrutiny.
In the proposed regulation, the punishment for rape is death penalty or life imprisonment.
According to Content 9 (1) of the prevailing Women and Kids Repression Prevention Act-2000, the punishment meant for rape is lifestyle imprisonment.
Regulations was promulgated through the President’s ordinance on October 13 as the parliament had not been in session in those days and due to growing requirements from the public to ensure death penalty for rapists.
According to the legal obligation, the ordinance was first placed found in parliament on the first sitting of the special session by regulations Minister Anisul Huq.
The trial of rape cases will be completed by 180 days and nights at Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunals in line with the existing law.
