DB picked 3 of dead in Narayanganj: Families
Three among the four men found dead along the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Narayanganj’s Arhaihazar were picked up from their homes by ‘detective police’ a week ago, their families say.

Police have filed a case with their Araihazar station accusing ‘unidentified’ persons under the Penal Code and Arms Act over the murders.

The families of three of the dead identified them at Narayanganj General Hospital morgue. They are- Sabuj Sarder, 17, Faruk Hossain, 40, and Zahirul Islam, 19 – all hailing from Ataikula in Pabna.

The other deceased was identified as Lutfor Rahman Molla, 37, a driver from Rampura in Dhaka, by his wife Reshma Begum on Sunday.

Police said the locals found the four lying dead next to the highway in the Panchrukhi area, two on either side of the highway, on Sunday.

Abdullah Al Mamun, additional superintendent of police, said they seized bullets, two pistols and a microbus from the scene.

“Our initial investigation, which found pistols and bullets at the scene, suggests that an altercation between gangs or criminals may have led to the deaths,” the police officer said.

After the autopsy, Narayanganj General Hospital’s doctor Md Asaduzzaman told the media that the wounds were inflicted by firearms and a shotgun was used to kill three of them.

Faruk’s father Jamal Uddin told journalists that Faruk used to drive buses on the Bhulta-Gausia route. He was not named in any case.

The ‘detective police’ picked up four including Faruk from Bhulta, Gausia on Monday, Jamal said citing others. He never had any information on his son after he was taken. He came and identified him after watching the news, Jamal added.

Khairul Sardar also told reporters that his son Sabuj worked at a bakery, and was also picked up by ‘DB’.

“We are poor people and not involved in any politics. Another boy Liton was picked up and his whereabouts are not known yet,” he said.

Zahirul’s father-in-law said he took up a job at the same bakery with Sabuj, adding that they have no clue about the incident.

Reshma said her husband Lutfor went out for a trip on Friday night and had been missing since then. She had filed a GD at the police station over the incident.
