Dams on Algi River cause extinction of water species
Construction of illegal dams at different points on the branch canal of Algi River in Baufal of Patuakhali causing the disappearance of riverine species.

The river also almost lost its free-flow due to dumping of wastes in the canal and turned into a breeding ground of mosquito.

Meanwhile, an influential quarter became active to grab the banks of the river that is flowing around Baufal Paurashava and six unions, alleged locals.

According to official sources said the  authorities of Baufal Municipality during 2018-2019 FY undertook a plan to construct three bridges adjacent to Eng Faruque Talukdar Women's College, Bangla Bazar and to the land office.

On completion of the tender process, the construction firm constructed a number of dams at different points on the river violating rules.

But, the Poura authorities did not take any steps in this regard despite various problems.

Siddiqur Rahman, former engineer of the Water Development Board, demanded that the dam must be demolished.
