'Build an ideal Bangladesh as Bangabandhu dreamt'
Speakers have called for a unity with a view to building an ideal Bangladesh as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
They came up with the call at the opening of a 10-day-long cultural program on Bangabandhu and Bangladesh at Rabindra Sarani in city's Uttara yesterday. Gitanjalee Academy for Fine Arts organized the function marking the 99th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu.
National Professor Rafiqul Islam presided over the program. H T Imam, political adviser to the Prime Minister, Advocate Shahara Khatun, MP, Mahbub Amin Mithu, Nazrul Islam, Shah Alam, Alimuzzaman addressed the function.
H T Imam said "The role Bangbandhu for an independent Bangladesh was unique and it was desired by all people of the country. He was also an epitome of integrity in the country after the independence of the country. Bangladesh is a country of cultural diversities. The government has taken up a good number of projects to flourish the cultural activities of different ethnic groups.
Advocate Shahara Khatun, MP, who inaugurated the book fair, one of the activities of the ten-day function, said people of the country are politically enlightened. They took right decision in the past to make an independent country under the leadership of Bangabandhu.
She said that Bangladesh is the only country in the world, where blood was shed for protecting the mother language. Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam highlighted the contributions of Bangabandhu in building the nation state absorbing all ethnical groups.
Earlier in the morning, a cultural function was organized by the members of the Gitanjali Academy of Fine Arts. The 10-day function will be continued till 26th March portraying different cultural activities.
