BUET student found dead; 2 BCL leaders held
A student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) was found dead at his dormitory early Monday.

Hailed from Kushtia, deceased Abrar Fahad, 21, was a second year student of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE).

BUET physician Mashuk Elahi said, "Some students spotted the body lying on the stairs between the ground and first floor of Sher-e-Bangla Hall around 3am and informed me. I rushed to the spot but Fahad was dead then. The body bore several injury marks."

Later, the hall authorities and the students informed police.

Chwakbazar Police Station OC Sohrab Hossain said police recovered the body around 6am and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue. 

Fahad's fellow classmates informed police that Fahad went out of his room as someone called him at night . BUET unit Chhatra League men beat him to death, they alleged.

Fahad was active in social media and posted different write-ups in facebook that might led to the killing, they suspect. 

Two BCL leaders Mehedi Hasan Russel and Mustakim Fuad, also the BUET students, were detained this morning for interrogation. the OC added.

Russel is the BUET unit BCL general secretary and Fuad is the vice-president. Both are residents of Sher-e-Bangla hall.
bdnews24.com adds: Abrar was beaten to death for his suspected links to the Islami Chhatra Shibir, media reports said citing his classmates. The police refused to comment on the issue.

Police officials visited the Room 2011 of the dormitory where Abrar was allegedly beaten and other rooms and collected evidence, said Dhaka Metropolitan Additional Police Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy.

“Whoever the criminal is will be brought to justice. We’ll find all of them.”
