BRTC seeks extra allocation to create skilled drivers
Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) sent a letter to Planning Commission asking for extra allocation for 2018-19 fiscal year in a bid to make skilled drivers.

BRTC asked for Tk 12 crore 6 lakhs for 3 Training Institutes, and ‘Modernization and Reinforcement of 17 Training Centers’ in order to train drivers to become skilled.

However, only Tk 3 crore 13 lakhs were allocated for Annual Development Program (ADP). So, it adds up to TK Tk 15 crore 19 lakhs in total.

The government has given much emphasis to this project in the wake of road accidents in different areas of the country.

“1 lakh skilled drivers will be produced. BRTC will create 36 thousands. We implement this project to realize this goal. The total expenditure of the project is Tk15 crore 39 lakhs. But, we haven’t got anything yet. How would we function without allocation? For this reason, we asked for allocation on an emergency basis,” Abu Bakar Siddiq, BRTC manager (planning) told Banglanews.

The BRTC, Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) and the Ministry of Finance's Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP) will jointly implement the project.

Vehicles will be bought for training. BMET will train 32 thousands while the rest 32 thousands will be trained under private institutions.
