Appointed drivers to run buses, no more contractual
Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association has decided to abolish the contractual system for letting only appointed persons to drive city buses from now on.

The decision was made to prevent the competing nature of contractual bus drivers. Transport analysts believe that contractual bus drivers are forced to drive buses in rush and carelessly as they have to pay a certain amount of deposit money to owners and earn more money for themselves. So, they often compete with each other on roads to take more passengers from bus stops.

Khandaker Enayet Ullah, general secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association and Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association, announced it at a press briefing in city’s Motijheel BRTC building on Wednesday (August 8).

Organization’s president Abul Kalam and other leaders were also present at the time.

Enayet Ullah said the decision has been made after holding meting with workers, owners of all bus paribahans in Dhaka. From tomorrow, registration will be cancelled if any bus owners ply their bus by contractual drivers. From now on, only appointed drivers will be allowed.
