Bangladesh's true good friend Father Timm dies
Father Richard William Timm, a lifelong good friend of Bangladesh, passed on found in South Bend, Indiana, USA on Friday. He was 97.

Akhila D. Rozario, director of the Mirpur Agricultural Workshop and Training School, told journalists on Saturday.

Rozario said she received the news of Father Timm's death on Saturday morning hours. He had been suffering several old-age complications.

Father Timm was created on March 2, 1923 in Michigan Metropolis, Indiana, USA. He was a catholic priest, educator, zoologist, and expansion worker. He was the Better of the Congregation of Holy Cross in Dhaka and an associate of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Province. He was also one of the founders of Notre Dame College or university in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He was the 6th principal (1970 to 1972) of Notre Dame College.

Born under German ancestry from both sides, Timm was the next among the several siblings - elder brother Bob, who died in Okinawa in World War II, and young sisters Mary Jo Schiel and Genevieve Gantner.

Timm was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award found in 1987 for International Understanding.

In response to his activities for production, Timm was honored with the citizenship from 3 different governments.

Among the many varieties of Nematodes he learned, the Marine Nematode Timmia parva was named after Timm himself.

Timm could possibly be considered the daddy of NGO (Non federal government organizations. mainly for development) in Bangladesh. His activities dished up as the initiating force for the Association of Development Organizations in Bangladesh (ADAB), the Coordinator Council for Individual Rights in Bangladesh (CCHRB) and South Asia Forum for Human being Rights (SAFHR). He was a consultant for Caritas Bangladesh and a plank person in several Caritas projects in addition to the projects of different NGOs.

Timm expressed his opinion about the incidents and against the genocide on the liberation war of Bangladesh through his composing. He emphasized the hard scenarios of civilians and the violation of individual rights. His letters written to Rohde offered to build public opinion around the world and specifically in USA against the war in Bangladesh.

After the liberation war of Bangladesh, Timm actively took part in the newborn country's reconstruction interact with the UN, USAID, CORR (The Christian Organization for Comfort and Rehabilitation, later Caritas) and CRS. On November 12, 1970, a great cyclone struck the coastal regions of East Pakistan and killed at least 50,000 persons. Timm, assisted by the students of Notre Dame College or university, CORR (The Christian Company for Pain relief and Rehabilitation, later Caritas) and HELP (Heartland Emergency Life-Saving Job), conducted several alleviation expeditions in the damaged areas. The response was among the largest of these taken by non-government persons.

On other disasters, like the wonderful flood of 1998, Notre Dame College and Caritas both participated in the relief work both in and out of Dhaka Town beneath the participation and influence of Timm.
