Bangladeshi voters’ registration in Dubai from Nov 18
The Election Commission (EC) is now set to leave for Dubai of United Arab Emirates to make expatriate Bangladeshis voters by issuing national identity (NID) cards.
The EC will begin the process on November 18 as it got the approval from the country.
Sources said a team concerned will carry out the process by setting up a help desk at Bangladesh Embassy in Dubai. They will also receive applications online. Later the process will be arranged for Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia, Maldives, Singapore and UK in phases.
Director General of the National Identity Registration Wing of EC Brig Gen Saidul Islam said, "We receiving applications of Bangladeshi expatriates, we will send those to the respective Upazila Election Officer." After having investigative report from Upazila level, a help desk will be set up at the embassy to receive ten fingerprints and iris scan for the eligible applicants. Then the data will be posted on the EC server and printed on the smart card and distributed through the help desk.
Earlier on November 5, the EC inaugurated the 'expatriate voter registration programme' in Malaysia.
Requirements for application:
The NID director general said that a total of six documents have to be provided to the expatriates for voting. These are - photocopy of passport, duplicate citizenship certificate or foreign ministry approval if holding foreign passport, passport copy of a Bangladeshi expatriate who identified the applicant as a Bangladeshi citizen, name of a blood relative living in Bangladesh, declaration along with his mobile number and NID number, declaration that he/she has no NID card from anywhere of the country and Certificate from respective Embassy.
