Bangladesh Bank orders banks to make sure full CSR shelling out for health
The central bank has instructed banks to guarantee the full and proper spending for medical sector under their corporate social responsibility initiatives amid the raging coronavirus pandemic.
Based on the existing rules, medical sector accounts for 60 % of the allocation of the CSR spending budget of banks, accompanied by the training sector at 30 % and climate change risk mitigation efforts at 10 per cent.
Beneath the present circumstances, the 60 % spending for the health sector should be ensured, the BB said in a find on Tuesday.
Initiating various actions in the health sector has become inevitable to greatly help it overcome the existing crisis brought on by the novel coronavirus, it explained.
The BB advised banks to carry on regular activities in the health sector and extend cooperation by donating important medical equipment such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) equipment, ventilators and oxygen cylinders along with personal protective gears for medical researchers.
Steps must be taken up to extend this cooperation to the district level, the central bank said.
