Bangladesh also to make planes one day in future: PM
The government is establishing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University (BSMRAAU) in the northern district. From the aeronautical centre in Lalmonirhat, Bangladesh would be able to make helicopters, planes and fighter planes one day in the future as the country can now build and export ships.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while talking to the locals of Lalmonirhat through a videoconference from Gono Bhaban at the inauguration ceremony of the intercity train Kurigram Express on the Kurigram-Dhaka-Kurigram route on October 16.
The government wants to make the rail routes profitable, modernising them to provide all sorts of opportunity and facility for the people including transportation of goods, said the Premier while flagging off the new intercity train through the videoconference.
She further added that railway is the most convenient communication for the commoners and it is essential for a country to have all kinds of transport system – rail, water, air and road. Hence, the government has been implementing a huge programme to spread railway connectivity to every division including Barisal.
“Our goal is to bring the entire country, even the southern part, under railway network. We have constructed many new rail routes and repaired many old rail lines,” said the Prime Minister.
She also mentioned that the government will extend the railway network to Barishal, Mongla in Bagerhat and Payra Port in Patuakhali.
The Prime Minister also launched newly-imported coaches of Rangpur Express and Lalmoni Express through the videoconference.
Obaidul Quader, Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Tipu Munshi, Minister of Commerce and Nuruzzaman Ahmed, Minister for Social Welfare were present on the occasion.
Nurul Islam Sujan, Minister of Railways also spoke at the launch joining the videoconference from Kurigram.
Nojibur Rahman, Principal Secretary moderated the inauguration ceremony, while Md Mofazzel Hossain, Railways Secretary made an audio-visual presentation highlighting the development of the country’s railways sector in the last 11 years.
