Appointment of new CJ soon: Law Minister

DHAKA: Law Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday (January 30) said that the new Chief Justice will be appointed soon.

“The President can say the details. But as far I know, the CJ will be appointed very soon”, said the minister while asked about details regarding this.

The post of CJ fell vacant after the resignation of Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, on November 10, 2017. Appellate Division senior-most judge Justice Wahhab Miah has been performing as the Acting CJ since then.

Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha resigned while he was in abroad. He submitted the resign letter to the President, at the Bangladesh High commission in Singapore on November 10. 

President Abdul Hamid accepted the letter on November 14.

However, Justice SK Sinha’s regular tenure was till January 31.
