Diwali is just around the corner and the Apple App Store is embracing Diwali like never before. Since October 18, it has been featuring Diwali-related content, helping users find the best apps to help them with every aspect of celebrating the festival - from booking holidays to creating their own crafts, taking the best photos of their festivities or the best shows to watch.

The Today tab on the App Store is the destination for great stories on apps, games and the creators behind them. The Today tab is updated daily, to keep you informed and inspired by the ever-evolving world of apps and games. It’s also a great place to find helpful tips and tricks and give below are some Diwali recommendations.

DIY Diwali

It’s not about how fancy your Diwali celebrations are, it’s about the love that goes into making the festivities special. What better way to celebrate a traditional festival than by returning to the tradition of making things by hand? A party invitation rendered in beautiful calligraphy, say, or fragrant candles or a beautiful design for a rangoli – everything is more meaningful when you create it from scratch.

If you don’t know where to start, these apps can help awaken your crafting creativity. Discover ideas for whipping up something delicious for the family or lighting up every corner of your house with lovingly crafted lamps. How about knitting a scarf as a gift for your favourite aunt? Or involving younger family members in making simple decorations? Make this Diwali even more special.

Party Lights

Take a large mix of friends and family, scoops of food, a dash of music and games, and combine. Shake it all up and serve chilled. The recipe for the perfect Diwali party is simple; but hey, let’s not kid ourselves, the execution can sometimes be laborious. However, the secret to throwing a fabulous soiree, and still enjoying it yourself, is a little pre-planning.

Deciding on the venue will be your starting point. If you’re inviting people to your home, My Party Planner is a great tool to organise everything and stay within your budget. Want to serve lots of interesting drinks? Check out Cocktail Flow - Drink Recipes for some cool ideas. Don’t, however, want to be tied down by the task of filling up drinks all evening? Not to worry. You can easily hire a bartender or waiter via Urban Clap.

Diwali dash

Home is where the lamps are lit. During Diwali, home also means the swish of silk, the rustle of gift paper and the aroma of your mother’s handmade sweets, all wrapped up in the warm glow of love and lights. And if you’re looking to finally book your trip home for the festive season, or planning a post-celebration holiday with the family, the app has you covered.

Book your trip

Whether you’re thinking of taking an overnight bus ride home, a few days on a train or a couple of hours’ flight, you still have time to lock in your plans. It’s all going to be worth it for that moment when the door opens and everyone inside squeals in delight when they see you.
