Amazon quietly acquires e-commerce rival Selz
Amazon has quietly purchased the Australian-based e-commerce program Selz, which permits businesses to build their own online retailers.
The deal, terms which were not disclosed, was made previous month and confirmed by Selz in a blog page post. U.S. mass media reported the acquisition on Tuesday.
Selz's operations could help Amazon to fight problems from the fast-growing Canadian-based firm Shopify, that provides an identical service to retailers.
Martin Rushe, founder and leader of Selz, explained in the weblog that the company had "signed an agreement to be obtained by Amazon and so are searching forward to working with them as all of us continue steadily to build easy-to-work with tools for entrepreneurs."
Contacted simply by AFP, Amazon confirmed the acquisition but declined to touch upon any future plans to get the platform.
The deal includes Amazon under heightened scrutiny from antitrust enforcers all over the world because of its growing role in online shopping.
The business has argued that it generally does not play a dominant role in overall retail sales despite its large share of online sales in america and other markets.
