AL leader Faruk Khan joins Dr Kamal’s iftar party
Awami League presidium member Faruk Khan on Sunday joined an iftar party of BNP’s alliance partner Gonoforum on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain hosted the iftar at a city hotel in honour of political leaders and noted citizens, UNB reports.

Since the formation of Dr Kamal Hossain-led opposition alliance Jatiya Oikyafront comprising BNP, Awami League for the first time sent its any delegation to any Gonoforum event.

“I, on behalf of Bangabandhu’s daughter and Awami league President Sheikh Hasina, thanked Gonoforum for inviting Awami League to such a programme. Before coming here, the Prime Minister had phoned me and said she’s unable to join the programme on her personal health ground,” Faruk Khan said.

He further said, “She (PM) asked me to greet you, on her behalf, on the occasion of holy Ramadan. We’ll pray to Allah at his iftar event so that she can run the country in a better way, and work for the country’s people.”

Speaking at the programme noted economist Rehman Sobhan laid emphasis on interaction of leaders of both the ruling and opposition parties at social and religious programmes like iftar parties for bringing a positive change in political culture. “It’ll also help strengthen democracy.”

Dr Kamal thanked the guests for joining the event. He, however, didn’t make any political statement since it was an iftar party.

BNP standing committee member Dr Moyeen Khan, joint secretaries general Mahbubuddin Khokon, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Gonoshasthya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, Bangladesher Biplobi Workers Party general secretary Saiful Hauqe, Gonoforum executive presidents Professor Abu Sayeed, Subrata Chowdhury, its general secretary Reza Kibria and Barrister Mainul Hosein, among others, joined the event.
