Abbasuddin International Bhawaiya Festival begins

The three-day Abbasuddin International Bhawaiya Festival-2018 began on the Public Library ground in Rangpur on Thursday night with the patronisation of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs with assistance of the ‘Bhaoyaiya Sangshad Dhaka’.

Popular Bhawaiya singers of Dhaka and nine northern districts of Bangladesh, Kolkata, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri and Koochbehar districts of West Bengal and Assam in India are taking part in the festival, reports BSS.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, MP, as the chief, recalled tremendous contribution of Abbasuddin to flourishing Bhawaiya songs in this region, and called for preserving cultural heritages of the past and move ahead with newer innovations in cultural arena for building a human Bangladesh.

With President of the ‘Bhawaiya Sangshad Dhaka’ Nadira begum in the chair, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs Tipu Munshi MP, Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia MP, Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Bhawaiya singer and researcher Mostafa Zaman Abbasi, Convener of the Festival Observance Committee Siraj Uddin, its Joint Convener Biplob Prashad, among others, addressed the occasion.
